i made this yesterday afternoon in bed while watching a documentary called The Flaming Lips: The Fearless Freaks. it was fun to make and didn’t take very long, so i’m thinking of making a few of these charms for my etsy shop. i think if i do make more, they will have bigger white parts, like real eyes, lol.

it was really nice to make something for myself, based on my own make it up as i go along design. i’ve been making things for gifts, for cats, or for my tree. it was refreshing to just create for no reason. i didn’t plan for this to be a necklace, but it’s cool that it worked out that way , too : )

dan and i went to visit marla and mike (this time in canada!) the other day. we sewed some things. this is what i made:

forest fire as per dan's genius suggestion. if it wasn't two seconds to christmas, i'd make a bunch of flames for my existing xmas tree ornaments and list them on etsy.

next time someone asks me my plans for school, i will say: i want to go to fleming college for the fibre arts program and teach in a gallery or out of stores or libraries while creating and selling online and in the city.

when i was first looking at this program a very long time ago, i was kind of turned off by the fact that it’s a certificate program because the people around me were like, “what are you going to do with that? where will this lead you? why waste your time when you can learn these techniques on youtube?” i didn’t really have any answers for these people. so between that commentary, and the fact that it’s in peterborough and that’s near toronto and i hate traveling that far, AND the fact that i still owe quite a few thousand dollars to the bank, i kind of completely forgot about it.

i’ve always wanted to be a teacher, any kind of teacher, but the idea of going to university right now and going to teachers college and being thrust into a school freaks me out. a lot. how am i supposed to teach people when i barely want to learn anything (in a school setting) myself right now? i’d much rather ease into it by going to school for something i love, and then teaching myself how to teach children and adults alike how to appreciate the world of fibre arts and how to utilize the materials, tools and inspiration around them to make sweet things.

perhaps once i have those experiences under my belt, i’d be more confident to move onto larger things. i usually feel awkward talking to anyone or showing them what to do since i rarely have a platform for talking to people on some level beyond casual small talk. i don’t feel like i have much of a platform for anything in the real world. i feel like i need to start at the bottom and work my way up, and as i do so, i’ll become more confident and at ease around people in the real world.

only because it has some maybe relevant christmas craft tutorials. i’ve been getting a lot of traffic from people looking to make some christmas crafts. maybe this can help : )
