CNAP = EPIC

Tonight’s CNAP meeting was epic. And to think I was going to let some potential rain prevent me from going. This was not a meeting to be missed. IMO.

I brought some supplies to make more bunting, bringing tons of newspaper incase other people wanted to help. I ended up doing a sort of quick workshop on how to make it. Laura, Ashley and a girl whose name I forget helped paint and stamp a total of 35 triangles (diamonds?). Each triangle is unique and has words, phrases or symbols on it. For inspiration, we asked Nicole and Richard for random words, looked for words in the newspaper that was protecting our workspace, and thought of song lyrics and optimistic suggestions (ie “cycle everywhere”). Doing this craft was seriously the best time I’ve had at CNAP. It was a lot of fun and we felt really productive. We got our hands dirty and produced something amazing out of newspaper and paint I’ve had sitting around.

After cleaning up, Justin from BCL showed up and talked about wanting to talk about things we can do over the summer. I showed him what we worked on during the night, not thinking it was very relevant, but he was instantly excited (when is he never excited, really?). He was like GO PUT THESE OUTSIDE AND TAKE PICTURES. Since these are for my party next week, I was kind of hesitant, but I was sure they wouldn’t get hurt too much, so out we all went.

It was crazy windy and we are all really short, so it was kind of a challenge getting the bunting up and keeping it there for a picture. Someone went into Phog and got a stapler and it worked perfectly. The results were simple and amazing. I can’t believe how cheery and festive bunting looks (I still hate that word). I definitely want to do some more Public Displays of Bunt. I really like Justin’s idea of knitting and embroidering a story onto the fences at Indian Road, but perhaps this can be a quicker solution to that. A group of people can probably pump out hundreds of these in a day.

ANYWAY, millions of pictures!! Some pictures were taken by Laura. Her Flickr can be seen HERE.

stamping

Laura and Ashley stamp words onto the bunting with rubber alphabet stamps

Drying triangles. We took up a lot of space with this project.

Will You?

Will You?

stack of bunt

Massive stack of bunt. Why is this word the worst?

the fruits of our labour

There are so many!!

The original place, pre-stapler.

The better suited place (less wind), post-stapler. Staplers are my favourite.

Justin helped me by pulling the yarn down. Everyone helping was really short lol.

Staplers - The best invention ever.

I LOVE the look of these.

So simple. So neat.

we are all short

This shows how high this banner was, lol.

Thank you for all of those who helped create the bunting. Thank you to those who suggested words to stamp and suggested possible ways to put it up. Thank you to Justin for thinking of putting it up in the first place. Thank you Laura for taking pictures. Thank you Ashley for holding our stuff. Thank you Richard for offering to search downtown for paperclips. And thank you to everyone who helped put it up and take it down. I’m happy everyone had fun : )
